Hairless dogs? These breeds are relatively rare and seldom come across but they are especially favoured by people who can’t stand cleaning up dog hair at home or who are allergic even to hypoallergenic breeds. But some people are just fans of these hairless breeds because of their unique appearance. What are some of the characteristics of hairless dog breeds? Let’s learn more about the most common hairless dog breeds from the Chinese Crested to the Mexican Hairless.
Hairless dog breeds
Hairless dogs have smooth skin with no fur. They are very pleasant to stroke and touch but their skin requires careful looking-after especially in summer when they can get sunburned. Their skin should ideally be treated with moisturizing cream.
Although they are quite rare, let’s learn together about the different breeds of hairless dogs.
Chinese Crested Dog
The Chinese Crested Dog is entirely hairless apart from a crest of long hair on its head, and hair on its tail and legs. They have a very unusual appearance and are playful with a gentle character. They are active but are perfect for apartment living and are very affectionate.
Xoloitzcuintle: Mexican Hairless Dog
The Xolo, or Mexican Hairless Dog, is a primitive dog breed that was considered sacred by the Aztecs. They have no hair on their coats and feel warm to the touch although, in reality, their body temperature is the same as any other dog breed. Their skin needs constant attention with moisturizing and sun protection cream. They are athletic and affectionate with their owners and have a graceful, elegant bearing.
Hairless Chihuahua
Hairless Chihuahuas are the hairless verion of the hugely popular toy breed. They are the same as ordinary Chihuahuas but, naturally, great attention has to be paid to taking care of their skin as they can burn very quickly. They have great personalities and are brave and cheeky.
