White Siberian Husky, with its pure coat reminds us of their northern origin more than other breeds, since they have lived for centuries in the snowy Siberian land, and more recently in Alaska.
Siberian Husky colors
In common imaginary when we talk about Siberian Husky we think to their eyes and the typical soft thick grey fur in all its shades, till black. But, even consulting the international FCI approved standard (in Italy by ENCI Italian Kennel Club Organization), their possible colors are many and all admissible, from grey to black, from red to brown till white Siberian Husky.
Usually the colored fur ones tend to have white shades under the belly, on the paws and the mouth where it forms the famous “mask” effect, but there are also Siberian Husky completely white or at least grey, beige going to white.
White Siberian Husky fur
The color
that most widely defines the coat of a white Siberian Husky is the one that
result from the guard hair, while the underfur stays hidden from our sight and
contributes to create the shades of color. In order to resist to low
temperatures as it has lived for centuries, this dog has developed a double fur
coat. The underfur is thicker, the lower part that rise the guard hair
contributing in giving the plush look that we love in white Siberian Husky. But
this fur has also a practical function: creating a sort of thermo isolation
thanks to the dog can tolerate -60° C temperatures and do not suffer for hotter
temperatures as well. This woolen fur is usually white, even though it is not
like that in 100% of cases, as it can assume darker shades such as grey and
ochre. The guard fur is medium-sized instead, and it is the one that gives the
white Siberian Husky the color we perceive.
